“Sprung Up – e house is located in Cannobio, Italy, in a mountainous landscape with a view of Lake Maggiore. Like a monolith carved into the rock, it fits into the landscape and becomes part of it, creating a fusion between the building and its natural environment.
The building’s base is embedded in the floor, integrates itself and determines the direction of the cantilever. It is supported by a V-shaped support with a long overhang towards the lake and valley. An open, covered space is created underneath, bordered by the swimming pool integrated into the morphology of the area. As the infinity pool leaps towards the lake joining the water of the lake and that of the pool, the boundaries between the building and the nature that surrounds it are merged, creating a unique sensory effect.
Its design focuses on the relationship between the outside and the inside. In order to create a balance with the location, the materials create new relationships with the surrounding rocky landscape. The different surfaces: the bush-hammered and the smooth concrete, create kind of a material play.
The roughness bush-hammered surface is reminiscent of the local rock, while the smooth exposed concrete forms a strong contrast and makes the volume appear as if it had been carved into the rock.
The concrete brings the atmosphere of the natural surroundings to the interior. In contrast, the lightness of the railing with its curved, sloping lines, interrupts the horizontality of the building and creates a new play of shapes.
