The current state of urban architecture in Vietnam lacks excitement, with mass-produced housing models creating a monotonous urban landscape. The typical 4×16 meter plot planning, combined with densely packed “boxes” style buildings, results in a monotonous living space that lacks greenery and negatively impacts air quality. In response to this situation, we have approached The Nest House with the intention of pioneering a change in the perception of urban homes. With The Nest House, the building transcends being just a house; it becomes a true “Nest,” integrating the home with nature and the urban environment. This transformation frees users from the typical dull spaces, allowing them to feel like birds chirping happily when they return to their Nest.
Initially, we utilized half of the rear land to construct a minimalist three-story building, serving as a functional anchor. The remaining area was transformed into a lush multi-story garden, upon which a house block was carefully positioned, evoking the illusion of a bird nest. This central space serves as the heart of the home, hosting the family living room, study, and research areas. The structural backbone of this design is a stylized steel concrete column system, reminiscent of a tree’s natural framework. From every vantage point, the urban dwelling resembles a bird’s nest nestled within a serene garden. Looking at the broader urban landscape, The Nest House breaks the typical monotony, bringing a fresh image with its lush garden, standing out amidst the densely packed “boxes” urban architecture. We hope our pioneering efforts will spread widely, gradually transforming the face of urban architecture in the future.
The innovative design approach of The Nest House has positive impacts on multiple aspects. The home’s space is not enclosed but open and airy, allowing residents to interact with the surrounding urban environment. Inside, family members can communicate with each other from any corner through lush green gardens. This open space design breaks away from the typical enclosed and high-walled urban houses, a mindset that has hindered the connection between people and their surroundings. Moreover, the open space combined with green vegetation turns The Nest House into a natural ventilation hub in the city, adding more greenery to the urban landscape.
