Tait 12 Residential Development: Blending Elegance and Urban Innovation
Located in Bangkok’s Central Business District, the Tait 12 residential development faced a challenge with setback regulations. This was overcome by designing a unique, sloping form that stands out among the surrounding high-rise buildings. The simple and elegant architecture is subtly striking and visually complements the Bangkok skyline.
The building’s inclined form provides natural lighting to the interiors, creating a comfortable ambiance. The curtain wall façade features full-height windows, and the floor plan allows for more corner units than other condominium developments of similar scale. These combined features offer a high standard of living that modern urbanites aspire to.
In the facilities zone, the unique form is showcased with open façades and green areas that create a relaxing tropical atmosphere with ample breeze. Recreational areas include internal courtyards, a cavern pool, and a panoramic gym, all designed to leave a memorable impact on residents. Hanging gardens on the terraces of the sloped façade create an image of a cascading forest, visually connecting the pinnacle to the ground-level courtyard gardens and lobby space.
While unusual formally in comparison with its surrounding, the J-House outside wood cladding tend to bring the project back to the domestic realm.
The J-House responds to local climate conditions in the way it is situated and by the materials used for its construction. It is also a type of study of place, constraints and possibilities. The J-House was inspired by the shot-gun house typology; a housing stock that typifies New Orleans. It is also part of a lineage of speculative houses designed since the early 20th Century to redefine preconceived notions and ideas of domesticity
