On the steep hillsides of West Vancouver, a “race track” leads up towards the Formula One House. The track extends directly towards the main entrance, where it turns behind the home to reveal a perforated parking canopy that opens up to the exhibit garage. The main floor and basement of the home are programmed for leisure and recreation, while the upper floor is reserved for generous living amenities.
The Formula One House utilizes curved curtain walls to capture the stunning panoramic view from the mountainside. Sloping roofs extend towards the great Vancouver cityscape while creating a decompressing experience from inside the home with the undulating ceiling.
Voluminous natural lighting spills into the interior spaces through clerestories and skylights formed by the waving roof geometry. The curved elements also extend inside the building to shape the main circulation space in the atrium hallway. These curvilinear masses break the structured orthogonal plan to divide the spaces programmatically and mediate the built form to craft a unique experience of the surrounding environment.
